Union Springs, AL (WTVM) -  The Union Springs mayor arrested on Christmas morning for a driving under the influence and interfering with government operations is denying any wrongdoing.

In a press conference Monday, Mayor John McGowan said he will continue to fight the charges, "Nor did I, in any way, interfere with law enforcement activity. This will all be borne out in court."

The Union Springs Police Chief says even though he's friends with the mayor, he's proud of his officers.

McGowan's court date is set for Wednesday, January 13th.
