Man takes coat, money and cell phone in robbery

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Columbus police are investigating an armed robbery on the city's south side.

It happened at the intersection of Murrelle Street and Leary Avenue off Saint Mary's Road Wednesday afternoon.

Thirty-year-old James Cook, a Florida resident, tells police he was handing out company flyers in the area and noticed a man following him. The man caught up to Cook and asked to use his cell phone. Cook told him no and kept walking.

When Cook turned around to tell the man to leave him alone, he says the suspect was pointing a handgun at him and demanded his coat, money and cell phone.

The armed robber got away with $400. He is described as a black man in his 20s, 5'11" 145-150 lbs., wearing dark clothing.

Cook was not injured in the incident.
