Mother & Child Kidnapped, Taken for a Ride

January 7, 2009

WTVM (Columbus, Ga.) --

A convicted felon has been nabbed by Columbus Police after investigators say he kidnapped a mother and child, sending them on a scary ride.

Police tell us, 20 year old Marcus Wade forced his way into a 45-year-old Dolly Williamson's car in front of the Family Dollar Store on Farr Road this morning.

Holding the victim at gunpoint, Wade then forced Williamson to drive to an ATM to get money out of the bank.

Officers say Williamson was unable to get any cash out and that's when Wade forced her out of her car and drove off with her 3-year-old son in the back seat.

According to police, Wade ditched the car near Leary Avenue off Saint Mary's Road, leaving the child and traveling to a nearby house to hide.

Citizens helped officers track him and he was arrested Thursday afternoon at a home on Murelle Street.

Wade faces a list of charges including criminal attempt armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping, hijacking a motor vehicle, a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

He is being held in the Muscogee County Jail and is scheduled in appear in Recorder's Court Saturday, Jan 9th at 2 PM.
