COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Police have charged a man in the abduction and sexual assault of a Columbus middle school student.

Officials in the Department's Sex Crimes Unit say the 12-year-old girl was walking to school at East Columbus Magnet Academy at the time of the incident one week ago.

Twenty-year-old Marcus Wade now faces kidnapping and molestation charges in the case. In addition, he's being charged with aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm while committing a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police revealed, the girl was approached at the intersection of Amber Drive and Cameo Court at gunpoint, then driven to Belvedere Park and taken inside a restroom.

We're told he sexually assaulted the girl inside the restroom and threatened to kill her by putting a gun to her head. Police records indicate, he took the girl out of the restroom and drove her to an apartment complex on Georgetown Drive, where she was allowed to get out of the vehicle.

Wade is already behind bars, charged in another kidnapping on the city's south side.

Police say he kidnapped a woman and her grandson the day after the abduction at East Columbus Magnet Academy.

According to investigators, Wade forced himself into 45-year-old Dolly Williamson's car in front of the Family Dollar store on Farr Road and, at gunpoint, made her to drive to an ATM.

She was unable to withdraw money when she got there, so Wade allegedly forced her out of the car and took off with her 3-year-old grandson, Jayden, in the back seat. Wade later ditched the car and was arrested later at a nearby home.

Williamson and her grandchild were not injured in the incident.

Marcus Wade is a convicted felon. He pleaded guilty to robbery and cocaine charges in Muscogee County in 2007 and was sentenced to probation.

A Recorder's Court hearing is set for Wade Friday, January 15, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.

As for the attempted abduction of a student at Lonnie Jackson Academy on Friday, police are still investigating that case.

The chief says it might be an instance of a Good Samaritan trying to help a child get out of the cold.
