GA adds furlough days to proposed budget

Press Release

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue released his state budget proposal today, calling for further cuts to education funding and additional furlough days for every state employee, including teachers. The furlough days must be taken before June 30.

The proposed budget also requires hospitals and health insurance plans to pay new fees based on total revenues. "These fees will raise healthcare costs for Georgia citizens," said Jane Kidd, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia.

The DPG has determined the five most egregious examples of fiscal mismanagement in Perdue's budget. These ‘Frightful Five' items will be highlighted next week as Democrats expose the damage that Perdue's proposed budget will cause the state of Georgia.

The ‘Frightful Five' will be distributed daily starting on Monday, 1/18 and conclude Friday, 1/22. Each day, a different portion of the financially irresponsible budget will be exposed. "Next week, there will be daily reminders of what Republicans have in store for their constituents," Kidd concluded.
