Fort Benning's observance of the National Prayer Breakfast

FORT BENNING, GA- The Army's deputy chief of chaplains will be the guest speaker at Fort Benning's observance of the National Prayer Breakfast at 9 a.m. Feb. 17 at the Benning Conference Center.

Rutherford, of Kinderhook, N.Y., earned his commission through the State University of New York at Albany Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1977.  He went on to attend St. Bernard's Seminary of the University of Rochester, N.Y. and was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1981.After being ordained, he served in the Army Reserve until 1990, when he entered active duty.He has deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Hurricane Andrew Relief, Desert Thunder and Iraqi Freedom.
    
As part of the program Chaplain (Maj.) Carlos Huertas will present a prayer for the military and Muslim Imam Dawud Salahuddin Bin Pearson will present a prayer for the nation. 
    
The Maneuver Center of Excellence Band and Rachel Metcalf will provide musical selections.
Rutherford is the 23rd deputy chief of chaplains and has been in the position since November, 2007. The event is sponsored by the installation's senior chaplain's office.
