COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Today marks the first anniversary for the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. The 44th president took the oath of office before a crowd of 2 million people in Washington, DC January 20, 2009.
Obama's approval rating was at 70 percent during that time. Today his approval rating has dropped to less than 50 percent.
Marcus Hunter, NAACP Local Chapter President, says Obama has had a tough year facing major issues including healthcare reform, Iraqi war and the economic crisis that he inherited.
"Overall I give him a B plus because he has done some good things; we still need more jobs. I think the stimulus was a great idea but due to the paperwork, it's taken too long for the money to get to the communities," says Hunter.
With last night's win by Republican Scott Brown in Massachusetts, formerly the late Teddy Kennedy's seat, critics are now saying it's going to be an uphill battle to get healthcare reform legislation passed.
Brown beat Democrat Martha Coakley 52 percent to 47 percent with all but 3 percent of precincts counted.
