COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - When a Meriwether County school teacher noticed scratches on her 12 year old student's neck she called child services who contacted the Sheriff. This case was about to get much stranger than just marks on a child's neck.
Meriwether County Sheriff, Steve Whitlock, tells WTVM that Lynn Geter punished her 12 year old son for having bad grades by making him kill his pet hamster with a hammer.
Neighbors are shocked. The family that everyone knows so well seemed so kind, they almost can't bring themselves to believe it. Ken Brock, a neighbor to the Geter family, says, "I mean there great people to me, I've known them forever. I'm not saying it didn't happen but it's hard for me to believe. I mean I just talked to Lynn last week. I mean she's just a nice friendly person that's why I'm in shock."
News Leader Nine was able to catch up with Lynn Geter's father, the grandfather to the 12 year old boy, but he had nothing to say to us.
Lynn Geter is facing charges of cruelty to animals, cruelty to children and battery. The Sheriff says the young boy is a little shaken up under the circumstances but it doing well.
The case is still under investigation.
