Hostage Situation In Auburn

Auburn, AL - Auburn Police are investigating a hostage situation on Carter Street, near Old Mill.

Chief Tommy Dawson tells News Leader Nine that Officers responded to a call of a domestic situation involving a gun around 6:30 central time.

Once they arrived at the house they met the suspect who was armed with a handgun and a rifle. The suspect was inside a home on Carter street and officers learned his elderly father was inside, unable to get out.

The police then set up a perimeter and brought in a hostage negotiator and the Auburn/Opelika/Lee County tactical unit. 

The negotiator began a dialog with the suspect who finally gave himself up around 8:30.

The suspect has been arrested and faces numerous charges. No one was injured and the incident remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Department.
