Auburn police say mother let her son die

Auburn, AL (WTVM) Auburn police say a mother is facing manslaughter chargers in the death of her 12-year old son.

On Tuesday, February 9, 2010 the Auburn Police Division arrested Tikka Momon, age 34, of Tuskegee, Alabama, on a warrant for Manslaughter after an indictment by the Lee County Grand Jury. The case stems from a death investigation involving Momon's 12-year-old son who died at a Birmingham hospital in November 2008.

"Our detectives began an investigation into what cause the death and we found out earlier in the night of November 18th paramedics had responded to the residence of the child and the mother Tikka Momon refused to let the child be transported," said assistant police Chief Tommy Dawson.

Police say it was a neighbor who called paramedics the second time, but it was too late.

The 12 year old, who had severe diabetes, had slipped into a coma and later died. Chief Tommy Dawson tells News Leader 9 detectives believe if Momon had gotten her son proper treatment, he would probably be alive today.

Momon was transported to the Lee County Detention Center and is awaiting bond.
