Ready-to-eat sausage recall

ATLANTA - Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin is alerting Georgians to the recall of some ready-to-eat sausage products that may contain pieces of plastic.

Schmalz European Provisions, Springfield, N.J., is recalling approximately 1,485 pounds of ready-to-eat sausage products that were shipped to several states including Georgia.

The recall includes 12-ounce packages of "Applegate Farms CERTIFIED ORGANIC FIRE ROASTED RED PEPPER FULLY COOKED CHICKEN & TURKEY SAUSAGE." Each package also indicates "KEEP REFRIGERATED" and "SKINLESS" on the label.

Each package has a USE BY/FREEZE BY date of February 28, 2010 and bears the establishment number "P-5411" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products were distributed to retailers in California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon and Texas.
