Columbus woman's legs burned in apartment fire

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus woman is recovering from third degree burns after a fire inside her apartment.

It happened Saturday morning at the Taylor Place Apartments on Cusseta Road.

A witness saw smoke coming out of one of the units and as she got closer, noticed 46-year-old Lisa Roten running out of her apartment.

Roten received third degree burns to both of her legs and was rushed to the Columbus Regional Medical Center. Police say her injuries were not life threatening.

Roten has been transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital's Burn Unit in Atlanta for further treatment.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Police reports indicate Roten is disabled.

The manager of the complex tells News Leader 9 she has no comment on the incident.
