COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus man is behind bars after police say he swung a knife at a patrol officer.

Forty-nine-year-old Ricky Walker is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of a police officer and loitering.

Around 1:30 Tuesday morning, two Columbus patrol officers saw Walker walking at the intersection of 30th Avenue and Cusseta Road in South Columbus.

They noticed he was carrying some items and they stopped to investigate. When they approached Walker, Officer Jason Swift and Stevon Crawford say he told them "I'm not going to talk to y'all" and began to walk, then run away from them.

Just before he was caught, the cops say Walker swung at Swift before he was taken to the ground. When he was going to the ground, police say a knife fell out of his right hand.

Walker was handcuffed, arrested and charged.

Swift was not injured in the incident.
