RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Tornado season kicks off in March.
Russell County Emergency Management Officials are trying to get people to pay more attention to warning sirens. So, a new system will be set up to make the warning devices only in the projected path of the storm sound.
Right now sirens sound throughout the county even if the warning is secluded to one area.
"We're not going to be warning people in Hurtsboro about a problem in Phenix City, and vice versa. We want to alleviate people thinking we are crying wolf," says EMA Deputy Director Bob Franklin.
