Police Find Body After High Speed Chase

PHENIX CITY, AL (WXTX) -  Fox 54 has learned the identity of a body found in a car involved in a high speed chase.

Russell County Sheriff's deputies tell Fox 54 they found the body of 27 year old Joshua Hill inside the car after it ran into a ditch during a high speed chase. The officers say the victim was not killed during the chase or wreck.

According to our crew on the scene, a man is in custody in the back of one of the patrol cars.

The on-ramp to 431 South has been closed for the time being and officials say it will be for the next hour or two.

Columbus Police officers have just arrived on the scene as well as the Muscogee County Coroner. We're told the case is being turned over to Columbus detectives in the form of a murder investigation.

Officials are not releasing the suspect's name or victim's name at this point but tell WTVM the suspect is only facing traffic-related charges in Russell County/Phenix City at this point.
