Man killed in single-car wreck, driver arrested

LEE COUNTY, AL  (WTVM) – Auburn Police say a man was killed in a single-car accident in Interstate 85 near mile marker 54.

Around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, a 36-year-old man was ejected from a 1999 Ford Explorer after it struck a guardrail and overturned in the median.

The victim was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim's name is being withheld until the next-of-kin has been notified. In addition, an autopsy is pending.

Three other men in the SUV fled the scene on foot. Two of the men were later found at a shopping center at Glenn Avenue and Dean Road.

The driver, 24-year-old Ernest Silva-Perez was arrested and charged with DUI, public intoxication, and leaving the scene of an accident.

He is currently being held at the Lee County Detention Center.
Meanwhile, a third passenger remains at large.
