AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -  The Lee County coroner tells News Leader 9, an early Monday morning accident, claimed the life of a Nebraska college student.

The one-vehicle accident happened about 2:30 a.m. on Shug Jordan Parkway in Auburn near the Wire Road intersection.

Nineteen-year-old Garrett Schlichtemeier, of Ogallala, Nebraska died at the East Alabama Medical Center from severe injuries.

Schlichtemeier, along with two other occupants, were ejected from the vehicle after it overturned several times.

The driver, 18-year-old Michael Madkins, of Elk Grove, California was transported to East Alabama medical with critical injuries.

Investigators say Madkins apparently lost control of his Range Rover Discovery. Officials believe alcohol is a factor in the accident.

Schlichtemeier's body has been taken to the state medical examiner's office in Montgomery for an examination.

We're told the three were student-athletes at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska.

It is believed they were on their way to a spring break gathering in Spanish Fort and had stopped in Auburn, AL  to visit with a friend.
