Fatal Hwy. 280 Accident

Smiths Station, AL (WXTX) — A two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Lee County killed a Smiths woman. Glenda Baggett, 61, of Smiths, was traveling west in a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice when she collided with a commercial vehicle.

The initial investigation indicates that Mrs. Baggett's vehicle was traveling west on Lee County Road 248 when she failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of U.S 431 and Co. Rd. 248.  Baggett's vehicle was struck by a 2006 Freightliner classic driven by Ronnie R. Howard Sr., 62, of Midway, Ga.  Baggett was pronounced dead at the scene by Lee County Deputy Coroner Charlotte Patterson.  Howard was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene and released.

The crash occurred at 1:04 p.m. and Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
