COLUMBUS, GA - The 2010 Tiger Trek featuring Auburn University's Head Football Coach Gene Chizik, Aubie and the Auburn University Cheerleaders will be at the Columbus Phenix City Auburn Club Kick Off Meeting on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Green Island Country Club with social hour and dinner beginning at 6:00 pm. "The Tiger Trek is only stopping in 11 towns and we are excited to have Coach Chizik in Columbus," said Mike Tarleton, Columbus Phenix City Auburn Club Vice President and Treasurer, "we are expecting 300 people at this event".
Coach Chizik completed his first year as head coach at Auburn University with an 8-5 record taking the Tigers to a the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day. Chizik and his staff recruited a top 3 2009 class with some of the top players in the nation choosing Auburn University. Chizik was the Head Football Coach at Iowa State before returning to Auburn. Before taking the position at Iowa State he was the Defensive Coordinator at Texas after serving from 2002 – 2004 as Auburn's Defensive Coordinator where he coached in three bowl games and helped lead the Tigers to a 13-0 season in 2004. In 2004, Coach Chizik received the Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant in the nation.
Six lucky Auburn fans will be able to sit with Coach Chizik at the Tiger Trek meeting, attend the Press Conference, join Coach Chizik and Aubie during a special Tiger Walk into Green Island (weather permitting) and receive an autographed mini-helmet for $250 per seat. There will be a live and silent auction at the event. All proceeds will benefit the Columbus Phenix City Auburn Club Scholarship Fund and Gameday For Heroes program.
