COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Boyzie Barnes appeared in Muscogee County Superior Court Monday.

He is charged with attempted murder in connection with what police call a near-fatal shooting in Columbus.

Motions were heard in the case all day today and prosecutors say they expect it to go to trial this week.

Columbus Police say Barnes fired a gun on Ticknor Drive in April of 2009, hitting the victim, Lisa Johnson, in the face.

Court documents show Johnson suffered brain damage from the shooting and officials say she is being cared for in a nursing home.

According to the state, Barnes was convicted or murder and armed robbery back in 1986.
