COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A major break in the investigation into a drug store fire in Columbus. Announcements of new arrests have been made in the River Road Pharmacy arson. Columbus fire investigators reopened the case last week, following new information from tips.
There have been two arrests now for the River Road Pharmacy fire. This just five days after Columbus Fire Marshall, Chief Streeter reopened the case and called it arson.
Sources say 49-year-old Lillian Dion Burkett and her son 27-year-old Bobby Jo Burkett have been arrested. He was arrested last Friday in Alabama due to a probation violation. Streeter says the public has been a big help.
"We've had several tips that came in and all of those tips helped in the investigation," says Streeter.
Columbus fire investigators are still looking for 29-year-old Michael Lowery. The fire destroyed the Columbus landmark back in September and it was first ruled electrical.
Several sources have come forward in the last few weeks. Streeter says he is considering giving out the $10,000 reward.
The accused arsonists are each being charged with two counts of first degree arson and one count of criminal damage to property.
We also got an update on the firefighters injured during the fire. "Firefighters are fine they are back to work now," says Streeter.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Lowery, please call Columbus Police.
