Chambliss doesn't expect farmers settlement approval

(WALB) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture agreed to pay $1.25 billion to settle civil rights claims that have dragged on for years, but time is running out for Congress to approve the plan.

Senator Saxby Chambliss isn't sure it will happen. Chambliss said, "The only way I'm going to support it is if it is paid for.

It has to be approved before the end of March which means it has to be done in the next few days."

The money would be split by nearly 80,000 black farmers around the country who were not included in an earlier discrimination settlement.
