FORT BENNING, GA – Command Sgt. Maj. Earl Rice will relinquish his position as the Maneuver Center of Excellence command sergeant major March 29 at 10 a.m. after being selected to take over as command sergeant major of the 18th Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, N.C.
Command Sgt. Maj. James C. Hardy will become the second MCoE command sergeant major to take charge since the command was renamed last October to reflect the addition of the U.S. Army Armor School due to the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure decision.
Hardy's last assignment was command sergeant major of the 75th Ranger Regiment, a position he relinquished March 22.
Hardy has deployed in support of Task Force Ranger, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
His previous assignments include command sergeant major of the Regimental Special Troops Battalion, 75th Ranger Regt.; command sergeant major of 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regt. at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.; and command sergeant major of 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Ky.
Rice will serve as Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick's senior enlisted advisor, replacing Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph R. Allen, who has been stationed at Fort Bragg since 2005.
The 18th Airborne Corps' mission is to be a strategic crisis response force, manned and trained to deploy rapidly by air, sea and land anywhere in the world, prepared to fight upon arrival and win.
Rice arrived here in May from Vicenza, Italy, where he served as the Southern European Task Force command sergeant major.
