COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus child is recovering after losing control of her bicycle and colliding with a car.

It happened Tuesday night at 6:30 at the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and 30th Street, not far off Warm Springs Road.

Seven-year-old Savanna Scott tells police she was riding her bike near the crossroads and could not stop before entering the street because she could not figure out how to use the brakes. Scott says she saw a car coming but could not avoid it.

Sixty-nine-year-old Bernard Ashley tells officers he never saw the bike before it hit his 2000 BMW.

Savanna Scott's leg was broken in the incident and she was taken to the Columbus Regional Medical Center.

Bernard Ashley was not injured and was not cited in the accident.

According to police, a witness provided the same account of the collision.
