COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Two police officers at Columbus State University are safe after getting in a car crash on the job.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon around 1:30.

According to University officials, two of the school's police officers were having lunch at the Peachtree Mall when they got a call of an unconscious person on campus.

The officers engaged their cruiser's blue lights and were on the way to the call.

When they crossed into the intersection at University Avenue and Manchester Expressway, they collided with another car, the impact destroying a good portion of the police vehicle.

Both officers were taken to the hospital and later released.

University officials do not think the other driver was injured.

As for the unconscious person on campus, a spokesman for the university says they were also taken to the hospital. No word yet on their condition.
