Stabbing suspect taken to hospital

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - News Leader Nine is learning more about a stabbing on Betjeman Drive in Columbus.

Police were called to the scene of what they thought was a shooting, but after questioning witnesses, tell us the victim was stabbed with a sharp object.

The victim tells police he was visiting a friend at an apartment complex off 2nd Avenue in Columbus when a black man, standing 6' tall, wearing a blue and white polo shirt and black shorts, hit him in the back of the head and called him someone else's name. The victim fought back but then three other black men jumped him.

The victim stated he heard a loud noise and assumed it was a gunshot. The suspects ran off and he tells police he felt a sharp pain in his left leg.

The victim then drove himself to his home on Betjeman Drive where his fiancée found him passed out in his car in the driveway.

Columbus police and EMS came to the scene where they saw a stab wound in his leg that was two and a half inches long and an inch and a half deep. The victim was taken to the Medical Center where he was treated for his injury.
