Update: Opelika's first murder of year

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - Opelika Police have made their first murder arrest of 2010.

At 11:45 a.m. on Monday  the Opelika Police Department responded to the 216Chester Avenue.
Police found 21-year-old Montavious Moore suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Moore was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

At approximately 12:52 p.m. Moore was pronounced dead.

18-year-old Demetrius Shorter turned himself in to Opelika police at 12:35 p.m. and was officially charged with murder at 2:05 p.m.

UPDATE: Shorter went before a judge Wednesday morning for a first hearing.  His bond was set at $100,000.  The judge told Shorter, due to his age, he had the right to apply for youth offender status.  Philip Tyler was appointed as Shorter's attorney.
