COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - After several setbacks, the trial for a Columbus man charged with murder has been delayed but just for one more day.
Mark Herrington is accused of strangling his fiancee and leaving her body in the trunk of her car.
The 58-year-old's trial was set to start in Muscogee County Superior Court Monday but the proceedings suffered a minor setback.
A material witness in the case gave birth to twins over the weekend and the court is giving her consideration.
The state says she will be able to testify this week.
Herrington is accused of strangling his fiancee, Karen Carter, and putting her body in the trunk of her car.
His is also charged in connection with a "murder for hire" plot after prosecutors say he tried to hire two different men to kill another woman- his ex-wife.
Jury selection is set to start Tuesday morning.
Opening arguments will get underway after that.
