OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) – Opelika Police are investigating the death of a motorcycle driver, after he led police on a high speed chase that ended when he lost control.
The deadly chase occurred Monday just after 11:00 p.m.
An officer spotted a motorcycle driver behaving recklessly on Marvin Parkway. We're told he was weaving, crossing the center line and at one point almost fell off his bike.
When the officer tried to pull him over, the 2007 ninja style Yamaha bike only sped up and a chase began.
It ended when the driver lost control. Forty-nine-year-old Orlando Henderson of Salem, AL was pronounced dead, just 30 minutes after the high speed chase.
Opelika police say the officer did not violate the department's pursuit policy.
Henderson's body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
