COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - While patrolling on Forest Road early Wednesday morning , a Columbus Police Officer came across five suspects in front of a package store.
Police believe the 2 juveniles and 3 adults tried to elude him because of the crime they allegedly committed around 4:00 a.m., just moments before he spotted them.
Police say the suspects are responsible for smashing in a man's car windshield at his home on Danbury Drive. Lieutenant Ronnie Hastings says they used a portable basketball goal to crush the glass while the owner watched them do it.
The teens were released into the custody of the parents. The adults were arrested and are being held in the Muscogee County Jail. All are facing misdemeanor charges ranging from loitering to obstructing an officer. The juveniles will also be charged with a curfew violation.
It is against the law for the teens be on the streets of Columbus between the hours of midnight and 5 A.M.
