THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) – A Thomasville man, reported missing by his family, was found dead inside a vacant house.

Police aren't releasing many details but do confirm the man's body was found Sunday.

Shortly after receiving a missing person report, police began searching for the missing man around his home near downtown Thomasville.

What they found in this abandoned house, shocked the neighborhood.

"I'm really kind of mad about it," says Daymond Tipp who lives in the neighborhood. "But I went walking around and seen it and it was kind of sad to me."

Police have not released the victim's name or age, but did say he lived only a block away from the abandoned house at 529 West Clay Street.

"It was probably somebody I do know," says Tipp.

Word spread quickly through the small neighborhood. Residents say not knowing whether the death may have been murder is unsettling.

"Yeah, it worries me because there's a lot of peer pressure around here. I thought it was a young person, but it wasn't. It was an older person."

Despite the cause of death, residents agree that a couple abandoned houses in their neighborhood are attracting trouble.

"About those abandoned buildings, they need to board them down. Make sure they don't go in the house and try to do it again. So that's what they really need to do is start boarding these houses."

Hoping that maybe it'll keep another tragedy like this one from happening again.

Police are talking to people in the neighborhood to help determine what happened.

Authorities say they expect the autopsy results to be in by Tuesday morning.
