AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – The Auburn Police Department is investigating its first murder of the year.

Around 8:00 p.m. Monday night, officers responded to call at a home in the 500th block of Lee County Road 17 – off South College Street.

Police say when they arrived they found two men with gun wounds. 

It's believed the two men were in a verbal argument. when one man pulled out a gun – killing Theodore Reese, age 32, of Auburn. 

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The suspect, 20-year-old Auntavious Curry, was released from the hospital after receiving treatment for a gun wound. Investigators believe he shot himself while trying to shoot the victim.

A 45-caliber handgun was recovered from the scene. Police say none of the men lived at the home.

Curry was charged with murder and is being held behind bars at the Lee County Detention Facility. A $100,000 bond has been set.

The case is under investigation by the Auburn Police Division, Lee County Coroner's Office, and the Alabama State Medical Examiner's Office.
