Officer hurt in foot chase

MAPLESVILLE, AL (WSFA) - It started with a foot chase around a nearby school and that's the last thing a Maplesville police officer remembers.

Police say officer Michael Bradford was chasing a man around a high school after getting a call about a burglary.

A deputy later found the officer unconscious with a knot on his head.

The town of Maplesville is in Chilton County.  It's a small city with just over 800 people.

Police say crime usually isn't a problem.

"We never have problems like this," said police chief Todd Ingram. "But in the past few weeks we've had a rash of burglaries. This guy was just doing his job trying to keep the streets safe in the middle of the night."

The Chilton County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.  If you have any information call (205) 755-7898.
