New Water Witch film to premiere at River Blast this weekend

Press Release:

COLUMBUS, GA – A special film detailing the capture of the USS Water Witch by Confederate Navy commandos in the summer of 1864 will be premiered this Saturday at Port Columbus in the center Gallery.

"The University of Georgia Theater and Film Studies Department put this together for the museum, and a great deal of it is digital imagery," said museum Executive Director Bruce Smith.

The short film includes interviews with museum historians and live action animated sequences. "No one has seen anything like this before," said Smith.

The film will run throughout the weekend as part of the River Blast activities at the museum. River Blast will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days.

For more information, visit the museum's website at or call 706-327-9798. Port Columbus is located at 1002 Victory Drive, and is open daily from 9 to 5.
