AMERICUS, GA (WTVM) - Americus police are investigating a shooting that left a teen shot in the stomach.
Americus, Georgia Police Chief James Green tells News Leader 9 that police officers were dispatched to Phoebe Sumter Regional Hospital at 8:03 p.m. after a report of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, police found 18 year-old Tevon Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. Chief Green says Smith was transported in a private vehicle and was shot on West Peppermint Street.
During interviews, Smith told police that unknown male subjects were looking at a handgun that dropped and went off. The case is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
