COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) – Two teens are facing charges after an attempted kidnapping at a Columbus playground.
Seventeen-year-old Brodrick Walker pled not guilty in Recorder's Court Wednesday afternoon to attempted kidnapping charges. The case was bound over to Muscogee County Superior Court and a $5,000 bond was set.
Testimony came from both alleged victims in court. The reported incident happened at Georgetown Elementary in East Columbus around 5:30 Tuesday evening.
According to police, two 16-year-old girls were hanging out on the swings at the playground when they were approached by two teens in a silver golf cart.
The victims told authorities the encounter started with casual conversation, but then, the suspects tried to get them to go for a ride -- they said they did not want to go.
The girls say they were grabbed against their will and carried from the playground, but they escaped the suspects' grasps and left the area. The victims were not injured in the alleged incident.
Columbus Police responded when one of the victims placed a 911 call.
After getting a statement from one of the victims, officers saw a golf cart traveling southbound on Buena Vista Road.
A short chase ensued, where Walker and a juvenile were caught and arrested. Since the second teen is a juvenile, his name will not be released. In court, officers stated there is a third suspect involved that has not been located.
Columbus Police Department's Youth Services Division is doing an additional investigation into the case.
The reported incident comes months after the January 6th abduction and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in the same vicinity.
The victim is a student at East Columbus Magnet Academy -- located right next to Georgetown Elementary.
The suspect in that case, 20-year-old Marcus Wade, pled not guilty to a list of charges, including kidnapping, child molestation and sodomy.
According to police testimony, Wade kidnapped the girl at gunpoint as she was walking to school and tried to rape her twice inside the bathroom at a nearby park before letting her go.
Wade is being held in the Muscogee County Jail without bond. His case has been bound over to Superior Court.
