Trial set to begin for man accused of killing girlfriend

CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL - Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of John Lisenby.

Lisenby is accused of intentionally causing the death of Amanda Engelhardt, by stabbing her with a knife on Feb. 27 2009.

Lanett Police indicated Amanda was nearly decapitated. Police say Amanda and John lived together in Lanett, AL and had a small child together.

The baby girl was 8-months-old at the time of the murder and was at home at the time of the stabbing.

The child was not injured. She was found by police wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa. Police say Lisenby fled to Mobile, AL where he was arrested a few days later.

Lisenby faces murder and child abandonment charges.

Openings are expected to start Monday afternoon with possibly some testimony.

The trial is expected to wrap up Wednesday.
