COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - If you think traffic is a problem in north Columbus, it could be getting worse before it gets better.

Monday evening, the Georgia Department of Transportation held  an open house to present a Whittlesey Road widening project.

We've all experienced the headache of trying to maneuver around the Whittlesey Road area, but now the Georgia DOT thinks they have a solution and it comes in the form of a widening project. They hosted an open house at the Northern Chapel on Whittlesey Road to present the detour options and talk to the public about the project.

Construction areas would include from where Whittlesey intersects Bradley Park Drive all the way to the Veterans Parkway intersection.

The whole purpose of the open house is so the public can come and see the mapped out plan, ask questions about the project and they'll have an opportunity to give their feedback on how this road widening will affect them.

If you missed the meeting and would like more information about the project, you can stop by the local GDOT building to see the plans or you can visit www.dot.ga.gov
