Phenix City announces first female fire chief

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - As Phenix City's current fire chief steps into retirement, the first female fire chief is filling his boots.

At Tuesday morning's Phenix City Council meeting, Fire Chief Wallace Hunter announced his retirement from his position, after serving as a fire fighter for 25 years.

The person taking his spot is the first woman to ever serve as the city's fire chief and only the second woman in the state of Alabama, Chief Kris Kennedy.
