COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus teen has been indicted on murder charges stemming from the shooting death of John O'Neil on December 27, 2008.

The lawyer for Curtis Adams says his client took the blame for a crime he didn't commit.

The deadly shooting happened at the Victory Crossing Apartments and investigators say it all started with an argument between relatives.

According to police, two family members point to Adams as the shooter, saying after an altercation, he pulled out a gun and shot O'Neil in the chest.

Adams himself, in a statement to police, admitted to killing O'Neil, saying he was acting in defense of his aunt.

Two other family members point to Anthony Cruise, Curtis Adam's cousin, as the shooter.

Adams' case will advance in Muscogee County Superior Court.
