Jobless population declines in metro Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The unemployment rate in Columbus fell to 9.9% for March.  That takes the area out of recent double digit rates.  It was 10.3% in February.

A report from the labor department also reveals the number of unemployed workers  decreased to 12,778, down 432 from 13,210 in February.

Despite the improvement, the rate for the state of Georgia still sits at a record 10.6%, above the national average.
