COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)  - A month from now, the Department of Justice is expected to make a final decision on a voting precinct change that would affect Columbus residents.

According to Muscogee County Elections Director, Nancy Boren, the DOJ requested additional information from its office this week.

Earlier this year, the Muscogee County Elections Board proposed a plan to consolidate from 48 to 28 precincts – many of which are schools.

Elections director Nancy Boren says the consolidation is to accommodate the Muscogee County School District's request based on the safety of children at polling places within schools.
