Gov. attends grand opening of W. Point plant

WEST POINT, GA (WTVM) – Governor Sonny Perdue attended a grand opening Wednesday for a auto supplier plant.

The ceremony  was held at Johnson Control (JCI) 1700 S. Progress Parkway in West Point, GA.

It creates lead-acid automotive batteries and advanced batteries for hybrid and electric cars.

In addition, JCI specializes in the following automotive interior systems:

Seating systems
Instrument panels and cockpits
Door systems
Overhead systems
Automotive electronics and electronic energy-management systems

It got its start in 1885 with the invention of the first electric room thermostat.

JCI serves 150 counties and employs a many as 130,000.  Its West Point plant employs 300.
