HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - A Harris County Kia supplier, Johnson Controls celebrated it's grand opening Wednesday afternoon. It's just one of the companies that has created much needed jobs in Harris County.
Another company plans to open it's doors in the same business park. Dayhun Solutions currently employees 100 people and plans to increase that number in a few years.
"For a lot of years we've been a bedroom community to Columbus. We really needed someone to come in and provide jobs," says Harris County Manager, Daniel Bridges.
More jobs in the county means more investment and eventually tax benefits for the county and tax relief to homeowners. Dahun Solutions another Kia supplier will have their grand opening in the summer of 2010. Currently the company employs 100 people and plans to hire another 200 in the next few years. Lynda Dawson, President of Harris County Chamber says this is just the beginning.
"We are going to have more service industry need more gas station more restaurants more hotels. All of those things are going to come which are going to create a real good economic climate," says Dawson.
But it's not all good news though. Some Harris County residents are not happy with all the changes.
"Fifty, fifty the thing is they want to see the county progress. They also want to see jobs in Harris County but a lot of people that were here before I was, they say it's a little bitter sweet for them," says Bridges.
