Auburn Chief of Police says goodbye

AUBURN, AL - The City of Auburn's police chief is saying goodbye.

Frank DeGraffenreid is stepping down after serving 33 years in the force an around 7 years as chief. He says, "it's bittersweet, it really is. I'm really anxiously looking forward to spending time with the family and accomplishing chores and things I've put off for 7 years."

Chief DeGraffenreid was a friend to many. His colleagues say he brought a sense of humor and ease to everyone's daily life.

They he didn't just make people laugh.

He inspired them. Assistant Chief Dawson said he's very thankful he got to work under the chief, "I had the opportunity to learn from one of the best I've ever known in the business."

Chief DeGraffenreid says he'll miss his everyday routine and the people he got to see so frequently.

Assistant Chief Dawson will be active chief until the position is filled.
