Famous statue celebrates new home at infantry museum

Press Release

COLUMBUS, GA - Monday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. there will be a 50th anniversary celebration of the "Follow Me" statue at its new home in the rotunda of the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center.

The statue's model back in the late 1950s was Major (Retired) Eugene Wyles, at the time an Officer Candidate at OCS. Major Wyles traveled from his home in Oregon to a special guest at the celebration.

Docents will tell the real story of the statue – what it's made of, why there are two identical statues at Fort Benning and the statue's official name and why there's so much confusion surrounding it!

The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center invites the public to this special event. In many ways, the "Follow Me" statue is still performing its duty as a symbol of Infantry Leadership.
