METRA's customer base may increase due to BRAC

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - METRA Transit System services approximately 3500 to 4000 riders per day.  The census is expected to increase as nearly 28,000 people transition to the area from Fort Knox, Kentucky as a result of Base Realignment and Closure or BRAC.

The fare for a one-way trip is $1.30 in Columbus. If you are traveling to Fort Benning, the fare increases by $.60.  The cost gets even higher for eligible persons with disabilities, $2.50 one-way.  METRA provides ADA complimentary Paratransit Service to people who are unable to board, ride or disembark from an accessible vehicle in METRA's regular bus service.

You must become certified to ride the specially equipped bus which contains a lift. Individuals are issued a METRA ADA Photo Identification Card.  Reservations must also be made in advance is not a same day service. The number to call is 706-225-4596.
