Homeless man's throat slashed during argument

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A fight happened Wednesday afternoon and sent a homeless man to the hospital with cuts to his throat. The incident took place at the intersection of 1st Avenue and 22nd Street.

The 36-year-old homeless victim tells police he got in a verbal altercation with a man he knows as "Tim" or "Kenneth" at which point the suspect pulled out a knife and started slashing at him. The victim was cut twice on his neck.

The suspect is described as a black man between 30 and 35-years-old, 5'10", medium build. He has a light complexion and a mustache. He was last seen wearing a brown shirt, brown or black pants with a brown bandana covering his head.

Police reports show another man came forward and said although he did not witness the assault, he heard the suspect bragging about cutting the victim and he stated he was going to hop on a bus back to Mississippi after the incident.

The incident took place near the intersection of 1st Avenue and 22nd Street. Columbus police are still investigating the aggravated assault but if you have any information you are asked to call them at (706)653-3400.
