COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Thirty-one-year-old Joseph Reese broke down in tears as he appeared before a judge for the first time Thursday.

According to federal court documents, the father of two young boys, transmitted explicit pictures of minors over a period of six months in 2009.

In his indictment, it says the Columbus man possessed, received and even produced pornography using underage girls he found through a popular online social networking site.

With no criminal history, the judge granted the Columbus man a $50,000 bond.

"We're pleased that the judge saw fit to assess a bond for pretrial release. We've just received a copy of the allegations today and of course, we have entered a plea of not guilty to them. We anticipate on meeting with the government's representatives in the near future. We'll be able to comment further once we've seen the evidence which they allege to have underlying the allegations. But at this time. certainly he denies those allegations," said Reese's attorney, Richard Hagler.

The United State Attorneys Office has no comment on the case but Donnie Green, Special Agent in Charge of the local FBI offices released the following statement to News Leader 9 when asked about their investigation on Reese:

"The FBI will vigorously investigate matters regarding the exploitation of children."

It's unclear what exactly type of photos Reese was allegedly sending and receiving from underage girls but WTVM has learned that his production of child pornography charge pertains to sexually explicit photos including nudity and sexually suggestive positions.

In court, FBI agents told the judge that Reese never had any physical contact with the victims. They say it all happened online..the evidence allegedly found on his computer.

According to the government, if convicted, Reese faces up to 30 years in prison on one of his charges alone (the production of child pornography) and up to $750,000 in fines on all of his charges.
