COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus man gets probation after police say more than 75 pornographic pictures of children were found on his computer.

Twenty-two-year-old Steven Commander has pled guilty to three counts of the sexual exploitation of children stemming from a joint bust by the Columbus Police Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigation in 2009.

Commander was sentenced Tuesday by Muscogee County Superior Court Judge Frank Jordan to 20 years supervised probation, three of which he must spend in a detention center.

Other conditions of his sentence include the following: Commander cannot own or use a computer and he must register as a sex offender.

In court Tuesday, his attorney, public defender James Archie, told the judge Commander had been sexually abused by a family friend for a period of ten years, from the time he was 5 to the time he was 15, leaving him "a victim" with serious problems including depression, flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Archie says Commander wants to get help for what's happened and only received pornographic photos and never "dispersed" them. He added that various institutions have deemed him a low risk for child molestation and sexual assault.

Assistant District Attorney Doug Breault said Commander downloaded child pornography, including small images of children and recommended a 20 year sentence.

Judge Jordan said he took the law, Commander's past and his diagnosed conditions into account when sentencing him.
